We ended up riding 19.15 miles today, slightly longer than planned. It took us 4 hours and 23 minutes wit our pace averaging 4.96mph. We climbed 3333ft and had a steepest gradient of 18%.
Sunday 21st August 2011:
Starting off from Tideswell, we will be splitting our day into two halves, the first being 12 miles to Hayfield Visitor Centre for a lunch stop. From Hayfield Vistor Centre we will be riding 8 miles to Hargate Hill Equestrian Centre where we will be staying overnight. www.hargatehill.com
Today we covered 15.9 miles in 4 hours and 11 minutes. We averaged a speed of 4.45mph. Our steepest gradient was 10% and we climbed 2304ft!
Monday 22nd August 2011:
After leaving Hargate Hill, we will be riding 10 miles to Carrbrook, where we will be staying for the night. After two long days riding, we will be giving the horses a rest for the afternon and enjoying the sights that Carrbrook has to offer! Today was our longest day, we rode 42.62 miles and spent 7 hours and 30 minutes in the saddle! We climbed 8455 ft with a steepest gradient of 36%! Our average speed was up to 5.64 mph today as well!
Tuesday 23rd August 2011:
Horses all rested up, we will be travelling 18 miles on Tuesday, broken up into two parts. The first will be 7 miles from Carrbrook to Brunclough Reservoir where we will be stopping for lunch, then 11 miles from Brunclough Reservoir to Hollingworth Lake. At Hollingworth lake we have been supported by Fielden Farm so will be camping out in their field. www.fieldenfarm.co.uk
Today we achieved our highest maximum speed of 22.93mph! We rode for 2 hours and 2 minutes at an average speed of 5.25 mph over the distance of 10.68 miles, we climbed 3076 ft and our steepest gradient was 21%.
Wednesday 24th August 2011:
From Hollingworth Lake Campsite, we will be having another half day, travelling 11 miles to Blackshaw Head, where we will be staying at (Badgerfield Bed and Breakfast). This will give the horses a rest in preparation for Thursday's hefty ride. www.bagderfields.com
Today we rode 18.06 miles averaging 4.51 mph. We were in the saddle for 5 hours and 9 minutes, and gained 3846 ft in elevation!
Thursday 25th August 2011:
Thursday is the day with the greatest miles to be covered. From Blackshaw Head we will be travelling 10 miles to Holme Chapel where we will be stopping form lunch. There is then an extra 11 miles to be covered before reaching the overnight stop at Tippet Farm in Waterfoot. www.tippetfarm.co.uk
After the problems with the accommodation and directions we traveled 10.92 miles today at an average speed of 3.86 mph. Total time spent in the saddle was 2 hours and 49 minutes.
Friday 26th August 2011:
The final day! We will have to cover 12 miles in the morning to get to Watergrove Reservoir where our support team will be waiting to whisk us away to our lovely, warm beds!
Snowdon has an elevation of 3560 ft
Mount Everest has and elevation of 20, 320 feet!
Our ride climbed a total elevation of 22, 678 feet! We climbed the equivelant of snowdon 6.3 times in 6 days, or once to the top of Mount Everest!
